There are many blogs, web sites, and other content types on the internet. Behind them all are web professionals. These are the people who shapes the internet; and, in this article we’ll take a look at three different types of web professionals. We’ll discuss Web Developers, Web Designers, and Web Programmers. These fields are closely related so sometimes they are mixed up, but it is important for you to know which one you may need to accomplish your goals.

Web Designer

I am a web designer!

The web designer is the chief architect of a website, the one responsible for making sure that the site looks good and functions even better. The web designer takes the goals of the client and molds them into a functional website. The designer comes up with the design of the site and then creates it out of several coding languages. A few of a designer’s tasks would be to make sure that the content is displayed properly, the site is easy to navigate, and that the color palette goes together.

Web Programmer

Hot Pockets will do.

Web Programmers work on the server-side or back-end of an application. They make a program do what the client wants it to do. While a web designer would create design and create a form field, a programmer inputs code that tells the computer where the information from that form should go. If you’ve ever ordered a pizza, made an online purchase, or bought a plane ticket online, you’ve used the work of a programmer. The programmer uses coding to make the site preform actions.

Web Developer

Right Brain/ Left Brain

A web developer is a combination of a web designer and a web programmer. A developer generally doesn’t know as many coding languages as a programmer would, but they know enough to create functional websites. A web developer knows how to create easy to use sites that look good, but a web designer would be more specialized.  Ultimately, the decision to hire a web developer as opposed to a designer and a programmer is up to you. For smaller projects, hiring a web developer would be a great choice; but for larger and more expensive projects, consider hiring a specialized designer and programmer.

Conclusion

Thousands of web professionals have come together to create what we call the world wide web. Some professionals work on teams, others alone. Each of them works with one of the many coding languages to craft effective web programs. Sometimes the terms “web developer”, “web programmer”, and “web designer” are used interchangeably because the fields are so related. It’s very important to know what you as the client need accomplished and to hire the right web professional for the job.
